Today I depart from the tales of the peepling quilts and reflect on Dia De Los Muertos, Day of the Dead also known, among other titles, as the Feast of All Saints and All Souls. Queenie first learned of this holiday while still a theatre gypsy living for a short time in the land of enchantment, New Mexico. The more Queenie learned about it the more I fell in love with this beautiful holiday. In a nut shell it is the celebration and commemoration of those who have passed on before us through the veil to eternity.
Today I remember Honey Man’s Mother, Olga who passed through the veil in the early morning of Thursday, October 27, 2011, after a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved cooking, gardening, golf and most especially her family.
About two months ago Honey Man’s family asked that Queenie create some sort of covering for Olga’s urn for when the time came. After much thought, prayer and meditation I created this quilted box.
Queenie lovingly collected an assortment of flower print fabrics in the colors Olga enjoyed
The quilt piecing is in the rich style of a crazy quilt a form of quilting which layers with decorative embroidery and trim… The many roles this lovely lady lived
A crown of collected treasure sits atop… Children and their children the jewels of this mother’s crown
Inside awaits Our Lady who embraces those passed and lovingly holds those who remain
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Honey Man and his family as they lay to rest a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
Amen.
Always, Queenie Believe

What a memorable quilted container you made for Olga. I second, "Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace." Since she just passed last week, perhaps today is the day Honey Man and his family are remembering her. Thanks so much for sharing this.
This heart creation speaks volumes not only about your love for Honey Man's Mom but also of your heart and the loving kindness therein. Bless you. Oma Linda

The Quilt Box is a lovely tribute to your Mother-In-Law. Love the Virgin of Guadalupe Image on the interior.
I too enjoy Celebrating Dia de los Muertos. This year I attended the Desert Botanical Garden's Celebration of it, a great time.
