Spring Has Sprung – Away Polar Vortex

It’s finished!
Yay and hurray!
Queenie created this lovely for the Modern Quilt Guild’s Michael Miller fabric challenge.
A wee bundle of fat eighths arrived earlier this year just as the U.S. was emerging from the bitter cold winter.
The cold grey print,
And the warm spring colors of the fabrics,
In combination with the hope of a sunny spring,
Inspired the multiple layers of my design.
Complete, of course, with much quilting,
With Sir Owen the Innova.
Thankfully, I was able to complete the quilt,
Just in time for show and tell at the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild’s July meeting.
Now for some quilt stats…
Size: 31 ¼” x 38 ¼”
Fabric: Michael Miller
Quit Top: Original design by Queenie Believe, using Sharon Schamber’s Piecelique and Applique techniques
Quilting: Queenie on my Innova Longarm quilting machine
Thread: Fil-Tec Glide
Batting: 2 layers – 80/20 cotton on the bottom and Dream Wool on the top
All in all this was a wonderfully fun project!

Until next time,
Have a great day!

Birthdays and Such

Gollys! Here we are at the end of June!
What a wonderful month it has been starting off with a trip to beautiful Ohio for a special celebration…
My Brother (B the Brave), his son (B3) had his very first birthday!!
There is nothing quite like the celebration of a 1st birthday.

Upon my return home, me and the Delicious…
Celebrated our wonderful Honey Man’s Birthday of several more years than one ;o)
The Delicious and I agree that he was duly spoiled.

For this month’s swap at the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild…
Queenie created this cute wee mug rug
A fun little project
That only took a couple of hours to make!

Other fun adventures in the studio include participating in a Michael Miller fabric challenge
We were each given an eighth of a yard of several fabrics in a new line to create something wonderful. With, a deadline of July 25th!
These are a few sneak peeks of the quilty fun!
The piece is now on Sir Owen the Innova with wonderful quilting planned.
I’m quite pleased so far and will have the big reveal next month.

Until next time,
Have a great day!

Here Fishy Fishy Fishy…

This past Saturday Queenie attended Sharon Schamber’s NewYork Beauty workshop.  It was sponsored by the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild.  Boy, oh boy, was it fun!!!  This is my finished block.
Sharon’s Piec-lique technique makes complex and curved piecing very approachable. So much so the next day I adventured (as Queenie has been known to do) with this newly learned technique and created this fun little wonky dice block.
I will definitely keep this technique in my bag of tricks going forward!!!
Here is a sneak peak of the Queenie Mother’s quilt I quilted with Sir Owen the Innova.  I will do a whole post on this beauty later this month.  The Queenie Mother has named it “Arabian Nights” - a fine name indeed.
Next up on Sir Owen is the Queenie Mother’s Blue Birds quilt.
I’m experimenting with some abstract Queen Anne’s Lace in the boarders…
And foaming surf in the multi-purple squares.
Here's a shot from the back of the quilt...
I took this shot from underneath Sir Owen and the machine’s light from the other side is glowing through… A little pre-Halloween vibe in the studio. (insert Bwahahaha)

Whilst composing this post Queenie drew a complete blank regarding a title. So, I took this wee snap…
… and there you have it, Fishy-s!

Until next time.
Have a great day!

Curtain Call: Quilty Flowers Peeking Through

Who is that charmingly, chubby woman in green talking with her hands…
Ha! That would be Queenie doing a little show and tell at Saturday’s meeting of the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild.
This was my first time to a meeting and was a wee nervous…
I was brave, went out on a limb and brought my latest finish for the group’s show-and-tell.  I had a lovely time with a great bunch of quilting folks. (Silly Queenie for being nervous)
Now it’s time to show and tell with you…
Quilty Flowers Peeking Through is made with a pattern called Fresh Connections from the Windham Fabrics website.  Pssst... Its a free pattern, quite easy to piece (intermediate level), and packs a visual punch.
The majority of the fabrics are lovely Civil War reproduction fabrics I purchased at a local quilt shop called 3 Dudes Quilting.
I really like all the interlaced squares.
A sort of garden lattice with a bit of an M.C. Esher influence…
Which lent itself to a bumper crop of quilty flowers peeking in and all about. (Click on any of the photos for up-close viewing)
Next up on my Innova long arm quilting machine are two wee seasonal wall quilts beautifully pieced by the awesome Queenie Mother.
April Showers, which I quilted with blustery Pooh Bear corner wind and rain drops in blue varigated thread…
And, May Flowers which I quilted with fun sunflower seed centers, quilty flowers and leaf-like filler.
Queenie’s been thinking of late, that she really needs to name her Innova longarm quilting machine…
He’s definitely a boy… very gentlemanly… always dependable...
I’m leaning toward the name “Owen”... Your thoughts?
What name do you think would be good for my dream machine?

Until next time…
Have a great day!
